Dr. Stuart Brown spent his life researching the value of play across the lifespan. He found that there are 8 different ways we all engage in play - yes, even adults! According to his Play Personalities, I am:
The Joker: I love having fun and being silly and bringing that into the playroom.
The Competitor: the athlete in me lives on by playing games and having fun through competitions.
The Explorer: I enjoy experiencing new things so you’ll always find me exploring new places and trying new things to learn and grow.
FUN FACTS:
Loves cats and has two of my own!
Avid concert goer
Loves all things glittery and colorful
I enjoy lifting, running, and swimming as ways to move my body and clear my head
I was on a puppet team for 7 years and now the puppets live at the office!
APPROACH TO COUNSELING
Play is the natural language of children and allows children a fun, engaging, and meaningful way to explore their big feelings. I utilize play based interventions to support children who are struggling with a variety of concerns, including trauma, grief and loss, attachment and family concerns, oppositional behaviors, anger management, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and adjustment issues. I utilize a mix of directive and non-directive play therapy approaches so that I can best meet the unique needs of my clients. I am Level 1 Theraplay® Trained and I love to work with caregiver and child dyads utilizing this attachment-focused, play-based approach. I also have training in Child-centered play therapy and trauma-informed care. Under the supervision of Machen Champion (practice owner), I am pursuing my Registered Play Therapist credential.
